Post-Human Stats
Jalen is a human/plant hybrid. His body is able to absorb energy from ultraviolet light and use it for self sustenance. Plainly put, he's able to use energy from the sun to conduct process similar to photosynthesis for energy. As he develops and learns how to control this energy that his body involuntarily absorbs, it gives him several distinct abilities from the average human being.
During his late adolescent years, this ability gives enables him above average strength, speed, and agility. His rate of cellular regeneration becomes above average during this time.
As he progresses into adulthood, his strength, speed, agility, and rate of regeneration continue to improve. He also gains two new abilities: flash step & gliding.
At the peak of his development, in addition to the skills he already has, his cellular regeneration happens so quickly, it's almost instantly. A side effect of this is a dramatic change in the pace of his aging process. It becomes so slow, that his appearance hardly changes at all for decades at a time. He also gets the means to use his power at night, something he's never able to do up until later on in life.
Character Notes
I. Early on, Jalen's capabilities aren't too far beyond those of the average human being. There is a difference, but it's not very noticeable.
II. When he's young, he's like the average human being without the presence of ultraviolet light. Even as he gets older and his body begins to store energy for use at night, his capabilities are still very limited. Everything he's capable of consumes a lot of energy. It doesn't take long for him to burn through his excess stock. Some abilities, like regeneration and flash step, he's never able to use during the night at all.
III. It's presumed that the "flash step" technique (moving large distances in the blink of an eye) was taught to him by Hayao Tamasine. They were in the same entry level squadron in the New World Military.
IV. Although he can glide, he never gains the ability to fly. This is one of the few abilities he somewhat retains at night.
V. The only relative there's information on is his mother, who was implied to not be post-human. She helped organize what was left of Texas and Northern Mexico after the War ended. Everything descended into chaos in the aftermath and she protected the innocent from harm during the time the world was temporarily lawless. She succumed to radioactive poisoning when Jalen was just an infant.
VI. Jalen's rebellious nature causes a lot of trouble for the New World Military, but due to the heralding of his mother as a hero, he is rarely admonished. He comes and goes as he pleases and abides by no rules but his own, much to the dismay of his superiors.
VII. His attire usually consists of traditional Chinese garments for men. The significance of this is not yet known.
VIII. In a morbid twist, he usually has a katana sashed at his side. He took it from the original owner of the blade and beheaded him in a fit of rage with it due to his involvement of chemical warfare that caused the deaths of many. While he never actually uses it again, he has it on hand on most occasions.
IX. Jalen has technically died over four different times. When he suffers a fatal injury, some undisclosed part of his body preserves him for an amount of time that's not known. If he is exposed to ultraviolet light before he loses his stored energy, it will revive him. It's suggested that he can be brought back from most traumas as long as his body isn't out of light long enough to begin decaying.
X. There is one sequence where there is a confrontation between Jalen and Laila in the middle of day in a desert. There's not a cloud in the sky and the sun is shining bright. For some reason I haven't figured out yet, he's still terror stricken of her.
